Wood Fired Fairness Pitcher

This wood fired fairness pitcher measures 3 & 3/4 inches tall and 5 inches from the tip of the spout to the back of the vessel.

Inscribed on one side it says 只在呼吸間 meaning "It exists only in the space of a breath".

The line comes from the Sutra in Forty-Two Sections (四十二章經). The Buddha asks his disciples how long a human life lasts. One says a few days, another says the length of a meal, and the one he praises answers 在呼吸間, "in the space of a breath."
