Be Careful What You Wish For (Especially If It's Tea)

You know how they say, be careful what you wish for? Well, I wished for more tea. And now... I got it.

A lot of it.

Recently, I brought in a wave of new teas—an influx that includes seven different puer cakes and one very special Wuyi rock oolong: the 2023 Wuyi Zhengyan Laocong Shuixian.

Here’s the breakdown of what makes this tea so compelling:

  • 2023 – The harvest year

  • 武夷 (Wǔyí) – Wuyi Mountains in Fujian, China, one of the most revered tea-producing regions

  • 正岩 (Zhèngyán) – “Authentic Rock,” meaning it was grown in the core, protected area of Wuyi, known for producing the best of the best rock oolongs

  • 老欉 (Lǎocóng) – “Old Bush,” meaning the tea comes from older, more mature plants that tend to produce deeper and more complex flavors

  • 水仙 (Shuǐxiān) – “Shuixian” or “Water Immortal,” a classic cultivar known for its floral, creamy, and rich character

Fully translated, it would be:
2023 Wuyi Authentic Rock Old Bush Shuixian Oolong Tea
—or, more naturally—
2023 Wuyi Zhengyan Old Bush Shuixian Oolong

This one’s going to be a no-brainer for a lot of people. It’s rich, layered, and full of that signature minerality Wuyi teas are famous for. Keep an eye out for it in the shop and online.

But that’s not all…

I’ve also got seven new puers coming to the site soon. Three are from JXJS—a new-to-me producer. Two are 2013 Chen Sheng Hao cakes from a boutique Taiwan-based collector. And one is a 2008 Li Ming “Ya Yun” (Elegant Rhyme).

These all require careful tasting, note-taking, photo shoots, descriptions—the whole nine yards. It’s a lot of work… and yeah, I know—hard to feel bad for the guy who brought it on himself. But I am officially putting myself on a temporary tea acquisition hold.

…unless we run out of core favorites like Iron Goddess of Mercy or Charcoal Roasted Oolong. In that case, all bets are off.

Oh, and speaking of returning favorites—Green Gold is back in stock! I feel lucky to have secured another batch. Don’t sleep on it this time around.

Stay tuned—these teas are on their way to the shop and the website very soon.
